Macular degeneration is the most common cause of visual loss in the U.S. in people over 55 years of age. Although no treatment is likely to completely restore vision lost from macular degeneration, some drugs may be able to slow the progression of the disease or prevent additional vision loss. Laser treatment is also an option for some patients.
