About the Practice
Our practice is dedicated to providing the highest quality eye care in a comfortable and supportive setting. We specialize in diagnosing and treating diseases of the retina, such as macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.
Our physicians have achieved a high level of training and are able to provide expert eye care. They are knowledgeable of the latest advances that will benefit patients and strive to ensure that patients are always comfortable and informed about their treatment. Our offices are conveniently located in Garden City, Long Island and in Fresh Meadows, Queens.
Mark Fleckner, M.D.
Dr. Mark Fleckner is a board-certified, fellowship-trained ophthalmologist who specializes in treating diseases affecting the retina, such as diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration. His practice strives to ensure that patients are comfortable and well informed about their treatment.
Dr. Fleckner completed his surgical vitreoretinal fellowship at Massachusetts Eye and Ear, a teaching hospital affiliated with Harvard Medical School. Prior to becoming a physician, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Duke University in 1989. He went on to attend medical school at Tufts University School of Medicine, where he received his M.D. degree in 1993. He completed a residency in ophthalmology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in 1997.
In 2016 and 2017, Dr. Fleckner was recognized as a “Top Doctor” by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd., a healthcare research and information company that seeks to help guide consumers to the nation’s best physicians. He is also named on Newsday’s list of “Top Doctors on Long Island.” In addition to this recognition, Dr. Fleckner was recently named to "New York Super Doctors," a directory of outstanding physicians in various medical specialties published by MSP Communications.
Dr. Fleckner has also been recognized as a "Patients' Choice" physician and a “Compassionate Doctor" based on online patient reviews. Only physicians with excellent overall and bedside manner scores, as voted by their patients, are selected for these honors, according to the publisher.
Dr. Fleckner has shared his expertise with other doctors, lecturing to medical groups on diabetic eye disease and other topics. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and the National Board of Medical Examiners, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Medical Association.
N. Gila Zilkha, M.D.
Dr. N. Gila Zilkha is a Board-Certified ophthalmologist. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry, graduating Magna Cum Laude from Duke University in 1989. She received her medical degree from New York University School of Medicine in 1993.
Dr. Zilkha completed an internship and residency in ophthalmology at New York University – Bellevue Medical Center in 1997. She went on to complete an advanced fellowship in medical retina at NYU Medical Center in 1998. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Zilkha, who has diabetes, has a unique understanding of the challenges facing her patients who have the disease. "Ophthalmology is the most gratifying medical field, as I am able to treat patients with whom I can directly relate," she says. "Having diabetes myself has allowed me to gain a more profound understanding of the concerns of my patients and the impact of diabetes on their daily lives."
She has been featured on the cover of Diabetes Positive! magazine and has been named as a Research Partner with the American Diabetes Association for her commitment and support in the fight against diabetes.
